*What made you decide to become a tribute artiste/vocalist?
I always sang, from very young and it was something that took me out of myself. I was originally going to be an English Teacher, but just couldn’t not do music!
*Do you come from a musical family?
My mother was an actress and her father a concert pianist. My dad is tone-deaf!
*How long have you been performing your tribute act or act?
I have been performing solo cabaret since about 2010 when I gave up cruise ships, where I was always the singer in the cast.
*What work is involved in putting the show together?
A lot of learning and keeping up to date. I try to put a show together tailored to each booking/audience.
*Which of your shows to date has been your favourite and why?
This sounds cheesy probably, but its the variety that makes my job great. I do like bookings where I can sing ballads and show off what I can do, as that is why you become a singer really, but watching a dance floor fill up is just as rewarding.
*What is the most enjoyable thing about being a vocalist?
People’s responses. When someone says they really enjoyed your act, or stayed up to watch you finish, its lovely. That is when it is really rewarding.
*What is your fondest musical memory?
oooh, either getting my first big solo at a major theatre aged 10 or winning the ‘Performer of the Year’ award at my Graduation, both were a shock at the time and I was so happy.
*What is your favourite song to perform?
I Knew You Were Waiting by Aretha Franklin.
*What do you do to prepare for a tribute performance or vocal performance?
I do a full warm up, decide a set-list that will suit my audience, and of course get dressed up!
*Tell us something interesting about yourself?
I am a really good balloon modeler with a degree in English Literature.
*What advice would you give to beginners in this industry?
Perseverance is what will pay off.
*Have you performed with or for any celebrities?
Yes lots, including Eternal, Leslie Garratt, Ella Eyre and Jerry Hall.
