About Gary
Born and raised in Billingham, near Middlesborough, Gary left school at the age of 16 to work as a full-time lithographic printer, dedicating the next seven years to his employment. In 1997, at 23 years old, he travelled to Tenerife for a two-week holiday. One night, Gary was presented with the chance to go onstage and sing a couple of songs. After a few drinks, those two songs morphed into a spontaneous 15 minutes of improvised comedy, featuring two songs delivered in his own distinctive, quirky style.
After receiving an invitation from a bar owner, Gary was ready to embark on a new life in the sun. Over the next nine years, he embraced a holiday lifestyle while exploring various forms of entertainment. He became a Party DJ, Foam Party DJ, Comedy Compere, and hosted night excursions, taking on roles like “WEE WILLY GOBSTOPPER” for the popular adult excursion, “PYJAMA PARTY,” the headmaster at the 18-30 excursion “SKOOL DISCO,” and the lead role of “CAPTAIN RED BLOOD” in the family show “PIRATES ATTACK” in Tenerife. Ultimately, Gary spent his last three years in Tenerife doing what he loved most: stand-up comedy, delighting audiences as Gary Gobstopper, “Blue and Unstoppable.”
In 2007, Gary and his partner Claire received an invitation to work at a dedicated entertainment venue in Gran Canaria called Paradise Lost. There, Gary performed on stage every night, managing the entertainment and ensuring that audiences of 200 to 900 people were thoroughly entertained.
After one season, a new opportunity arose for Gary to manage the entertainment and host the BARBACOA SHOWBAR in Puerto Rico, which had a capacity of over 250. Performing on stage six nights a week, he kept audiences engaged with his relentless humour and unique song selections. Gary appreciated the challenges this venue offered, and in addition to compering, he showcased his versatility by co-writing and starring in several shows, including the beloved comedy boy-band “Boyz R Uz,” the comedy rock ‘n’ roll show “The Rockets,” and the comedy drag show “Drunk N Disorderly.” Now firmly based in the UK, Gary is keen to perform at your venue!
