DON REID is a BRILLIANT COMEDIAN
Brilliant comedian Don Reid has appeared in numerous theatres the length and breadth of Great Britain. He says, “Don’t ask me to name them all, the list is endless”. The stars he has worked in theatre with is equally infinite, they range from major British stars, to big names from the USA including Jerry Lee Lewis, The Four Tops, Jack Jones any many more. He has many various guises from actor, comic, after-dinner speaker, singer, musician (Don thinks a semibreve is a dwarf with asthma), writer, parent, maybe best described as a traditional British comedian, vulgar in the best possible way yet never crude. Don quips “I can and do work an audience in whichever way they want me to, yet never too far”.
This top comic the brilliant comedian Don Reid is the recipient of a veritable smorgasbord of high profile awards being presented to him which culminated in a plaque from The Variety Club of Great Britain, which marked thirty-five years in showbiz! Don has produced and directed many shows, some successfully, whilst others have resulted in disaster. He says, “My life is like a tapestry with lots of dropped stitches!” He has also produced a comedy video “Take Courage, I Did”, which humorously tells of his brush with death involving a Ford; a book published with the title “Bunting & Frolics for all” which Don comments thus “It’s the kind of book that once you put it down, you just can’t bear to pick it back up again!”
Classed by many producers as Britain’s number one production comic (and maybe the only one left!), his TV credits include “The Comedians”, “New Faces”, “Up for the Cup”, “Boser”, “Late Night Live” and “Jamieson”; he has also appeared in two drama series “The Glory Boys” and “Lost Empires”. Numerous radio appearances from Picadilly Radio, Radio Bahia ti Richard Baker on 4 and B.F.B.S Belize! Plays: “Cabinet Ministers”, “Secret Affair”, and “Belle Bottoms or Bust”; summer seasons from Blackpool tp Bournemouth, Whitby to Great Yarmouth; pantos: “Dick Whittington”, “Babes in the Wood”, “Aladdin”, “Snow White”, “Jack & the Beanstalk” and “Wizard of Oz”.
HISTORICAL FACTS – Born: All Saints day November 1943 (despite what he says) born Crewe; Cheshire from a background of father, a cobbler and one time Methodist Lay preacher; brass bandsman. Mother was from a family of choristers. Grandfather a ventriloquist. Left: Ludford St School with 25 yard breaststroke certificate; he failed 1st aid for over familiarity with patients. Actually problem caused giving kiss of life for an imaginary broken wrist. 1st paid Gig: Murgatroyd’s sports and social club Elworth Cheshire Feb/Mar 1961 In a Duo an Everley Brother act they influenced us all! Formed various groups notably the King B’s and later This, That & the Other.
